The sun, the moon and the secret of the perfect parent…

Indonesia sunset 2014

Hello dear beautiful world! Hello dear beautiful planet! Today I celebrate the art of amazing parenting… the art of dancing with one’s child on far away beaches… the art of capturing dragons in the clouds and of counting all of the colors in one small spec of this abundant Universe…. today, I celebrate the ones that will struggle bravely next to their eternally buoyant wee one as they hike through the darkness in pursuit of that one magical sunrise… the ones that will listen to endless recounting of dreams… the endless belief in possible impossibilities… endless hopes… endless pleasures… the ones that embrace the energy… the passion and even the heartache… today I celebrate the parent that will brave it all to keep their child’s hope and imagination thriving… the parent that will say, “of course you can” and “aren’t you amazing?”…. Today I celebrate all that lies within each of us that allows us to be the perfect parent to the child within…..

Much love and power to the perfect parent that is you!

xoxo

Time to Make Waves–and to Embrace the Waves That Are Headed Your Way…!

pictures-ocean-waves-foam-sand-inscription-wallpap-24656

Life’s a beach… a lovely vision…. but without the waves, our beautiful oceans would be simply a bunch of very large bodies of stagnant waters…..

…So, whether you are building sand castles or playing in the surf, make a big splash with your day! Revel in your ability to make waves and to add to the majesty of our great ocean of humanity. Your unique “flow” of energy and ideas contribute in profound ways to the mightiness of eternity…!

“Ride” Each Moment With Glorious Abandon!

A fall is just a spontaneous moment of unexpected flight before you hit new ground….wink!

Yes, that was the lesson of the Universe as I found myself yesterday suspended in an unexpected “flyover” (that moment when you find yourself in mid-flip over the handlebars waiting to see where you will land…). We were within the final 5 miles of our ride… since turnout was a bit low, we had been grouped with some of the most accomplished riders in the club, so this ride had quickly evolved into one of the fastest rides ever … it was an absolutely GLORIOUS day…PERFECT weather…beautiful clouds…the terrain was windy with quite a few (pant, wheeze, pant) hills to climb…the sand could be quite thick and treacherous but we were CRUISING!! I was feeling good….no, I was feeling GREAT!!

It was one of those riveting moments when you realize that you have grown… you have blossomed into something more… you have become an even better version of you…. in this case, I realized that I have really become an infinitely rider than I had been even a year ago. Even the more advanced riders were commenting about it… I was zooming and loving it….!!

We had just stopped for a quick decision at a fork in the road then hopped back on our bikes for a rather sharp decline… I began to hear a lot of the guys ahead of me jokingly saying “weeee weeeee” and then there “it” was… the Universe’s little joie du jour for me… hee hee… It came in the form of a rather pronounced series of roots/small logs embedded in the path that created  a series of steps in the middle of a pretty fast descent… even without any additional dimensions to the challenge, it would have been tricky to navigate at that speed, but couple it with the patch of deep sand in between the roots and well….I was suddenly in flight feeling like Mary Poppins…. “practically perfect”, with heavy emphasis in this case on “practically”…..!

Interestingly enough though, in spite of the rather large new bruises…in spite of the wee bit of blood…my desire was to hop immediately on my bike and fly even faster…. so that’s what I did…! Amazingly, I even managed to catch back up with the guys who were the faster riders… my mind, my body and my bike became one… I was exhausted, but I was elated… there was a rhythm and a rightness to each obstacle…and a glory in each tiny achievement… the moment was in no way about having fallen… it became totally about having bounced up and moved forward with new drive and new determination…

As I pulled into the parking lot suddenly noticing that I was the lone “B-” rider still with the “B/B+” pack, it struck me that the glory of the adventure had not been eroded by the fall. Instead, the glory of the success had been enhanced with the discovery that not only can we get up when we fall, it can be these falls that add to our momentum. Yes, for a moment as I flew through the air, the wind had literally been at my back— and before my feet even touched the ground (or should I say, my back, my shoulders, my legs…BIG THUMP!! HA HA…), my spirit had decided that I wasn’t going to lose that sense of wondrous flight just because I took a momentary hit….

With a smile and a wee bit of drama, our dear Mother Earth sent me out the door to play…saying “jump in those puddles”, “run down those hills”… “fall down every now and again–it’s good for the spirit”…” because in these challenges lie the promise that not only do you have the strength to get up, you have the tenacity to create “more”…the bubbling desire to dream more….to love more….to live more….and more and more and more…

Life is as much as the glory of being thrown over the handlebars as it is about the victory of the finish! If today is a day when you get thrown, so be it! Grab that bike and race on forward…. And even if you are alone in the forest, remember that you always have your own mighty voice to cheer yourself on… wink!

Winks and Nods,

Tink

The Versatile Blogger Award–Yowza!

The Versatile Blogger Award

Some days are just SPECTACULAR and April 9th was one of those days for me! Thanks to Kavita Joshi and HER wonderful blog http://talkingexperience.wordpress.com/2013/04/09/versatile-blogger-award/ for nominating me! As I said to her when she told me, Frodo (the grand protector of our royal domain) and his “second in command” Diesel and I were doing the “full tail in the air” happy dance as we frolicked in the Tinkerbell fairy dust and dined on chocolate… yes, April 9th was already a “go ahead and eat dessert first” sort of day! The question was simply which of the chocolate lovelies would we dive into first!

So my humble but exuberant thanks to dear Kavita for bestowing this lovely award on me!

So…. the rules:

The rules:

  • Thank and link back to the person who awarded you. – Thank you, thank you, thank you, Kavita! http://talkingexperience.wordpress.com
  • Nominate 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — include a link to their site (and tell them that you nominated them)

Wow!! Where do I begin?? There are so many amazingly wonderful blogs. It is indeed an amazingly blissful and inspiring world that we share here in the blogosphere… So… if I must chose only 15, know that this was a super tough challenge and that I so appreciate all of the joy and encouragement and hope and laughter that so many put out into the world on a daily basis!

My 15:

  1. http://ourdachshundsophie.com  (Frodo insisted…!)
  2. http://iamforchange.wordpress.com (Still loving the special youtube feature)
  3. http://goodmorningctown.wordpress.com (so thought provoking!)
  4. http://tiarefitness.com (joyous!)
  5. http://eyedancers.wordpress.com (wishing you such success!)
  6. http://glutenfreegus.com (yum yum!!)
  7. http://bunnyandporkbelly.com (how to gain weight just looking at photos!)
  8. http://rachelmankowitz.wordpress.com (Frodo gives 4 paws up–plus a tail!)
  9. http://ourcloudlounge.com (staggeringly beautiful)
  10. http://thoughtsquestionsqueries.wordpress.com (the recipes!!!)
  11. http://laceandcombatboots.com (for inspiring me to get back to blogging…wink!)
  12. http://runningkattales.com (for nominating me for very Inspiring blogger and encouraging me with my little Tinkerbell blog!!–a nomination which I confess came when I was so new to my blogging experience that I hadn’t really had time to explore the community… yes, I got a wee bit bogged down trying to select the 15 bloggers that I would nominate…gulp…how would I possibly narrow that down…hee hee…although now…. wink!)
  13. http://booksforcooksreview.com (delicioso!!)
  14. http://anushrusrini.wordpress.com (lovely!)
  15. http://mysuccessisyoursuccess.wordpress.com (powerful…!)

Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself….

  1. If I have learned anything in my life, it’s to bask fully in the moment…expect Life to deliver miracles to you… and believe that “those terrible things” are often the very vessels that carry us toward achieving the dreams that we hold so dear…from our challenges comes inspiration…but remember to describe your day based on your successes—not based on your perceived stumbles…remember to talk to yourself the way that you would have your mate adore you…isn’t that really the most profound meaning of having a “soul mate”?… love life…love life…love life…and then love life some more….
  2. When I was in middle school (then called junior high), I was told that I had no artistic talent… when I was in college, I was given a C+ over D- for my writing…. and so I went many years defining what I “could do” based on the “assessment” of some “authoritative others”. I don’t regret that because now I love (LOVE) my artistic gifts and (swoon) sharing my own unique writing perspective with others… like precious treasures that had remained lost for decades, I cherish them now more than ever…and yet… to those who are still chronologically young (and those who are just young at heart), I would say: As much as others would love to tell you who you are and what you can (or cannot do), their words are only “true” if you believe them…yes, you are the writer, director and lead actor in your story. You define who you are and where your joy lies. Yes, bliss is a hint to tell you where you are “meant” to go…. blissful moments are the breadcrumbs along the sweet path “homeward”…
  3. I was a single mom for virtually the entire time that my children were young but what a glorious adventure it was! As my son once said, “we may not have a ‘normal’ family but we have a perfect one!” My children never cease to surprise and delight me. They are proof that often the fairy tale is nice but the reality is luscious!! (Ditto to the sweet wonderful man that is now in my life…wink!)
  4. I have been some shape or form of a vegetarian/pescetarian for almost (wow) 40 years. I credit this culinary style for enabling me to keep up with the “youngsters” on this planet! Wink! I work out (in sheer “sweat-filled bliss) 5 days a week and go mountain biking on day 6. (I dance with Frodo and Diesel on Day 7)
  5. I believe in the power of day dreaming…hugely inspired by the amazing insights of Esther Hicks/ Abraham “Law of Attraction”. By retraining my mind to focus on ideas and beliefs that really serve me, I have seen magic unfold… I wear my Tinkerbell wings and rose colored glasses proudly… my dreams not only empower me, but they ground me–and reel me back in when I tread in those “scary places” that my mind sometimes insists that I “should” go.
  6. I am only about 4 weeks away from launching my chocolate cookbook! Yes, what a crazy thing for a health/fitness enthusiast to be doing…wink! But that’s part of the fun…creating one’s own definition of who we are… and sometimes doing the unexpected even people might say that it doesn’t quite “fit”…wink! I am a bit of a food snob, so if I am going to eat desserts, it must be something extraordinary! And exxxtraordinary in my world means Ghirardelli brownies not chocolate cake with sprinkles (although chocolate cake with sprinkle lovers are wonderful too!), soooo….over the years, I have played around with numerous recipes to get them where they could make my knees melt….well apparently, they made some of my friends’  and family’s knees melt too because for years, people have BEGGED me for my recipes…believe it or not, it never occurred to me until about a month ago to consider writing a chocolate cook book…in fact, the entire world of publishing seemed TREMENDOUSLY INTIMIDATING…sort of like winning the lottery…until one day, I stumbled upon this crazy course about writing an ebook and I decided to give it a whirl…so cross fingers…ha ha!
  7. I am a huge dachshund fan, so it is with great joy that Frodo and I launched his own little blog and of course FB page…. life only spans 100 years, so make time to chase squirrels, feel the wind in your ears, wag often and savor the snackie-poos!
  8. (I know…you said 7) I am not known for my brevity…wink!

Thank you again for nominating me for this! Back to shining the Tinkerbell wings and admiring the night sky with the protectors of the Royal Domain!

Hugs,

Tink (Frodo and 100ShadesofChocolate)

Could That Super Hero Really Be You?

Flying High Doesn't Always Require Wings!

Be the Hero in Your Own Fairytale!!

The greatest heroes of the greatest stories were often armed with little more than their imagination and their determination….often they even lacked courage and knowledge…and yet somehow, they managed not only to succeed but to save the world in the process of doing so….

It can be tempting to chide ourselves for not being good enough…or powerful enough…or beautiful enough or just plain great enough to play the lead in our own fairy tale…and yet, here we are…cast in that role wondering what on earth the producers were thinking…??

Well, the truth be told, do we really need wings to soar?… or does that superhero cape really have to be magical? We believe that the magical creatures look like elves or unicorns only because we have been taught to believe that they couldn’t possibly look like us…or even if they looked like us, they couldn’t possibly ACT like us—could they? The “real” super heroes do leap tall buildings and yield amazing forces… they don’t make car payments or get stuck in traffic…or gain a few pounds when they dine on chocolate…

But really, who made those “rules” and are you obligated to believe that?? Take back your power, dear wonderful friends—and BE the leading character in your own oh-so-brilliant story! Of course there will be adventure…and possibly danger… there will be some villains and some that you love…you will quest and appear to “fail” at times, but that is what makes the story so intoxicating…so impossible to put down…

Be proud of the character that you create because the face of the mightiest hero could easily be your own! Grab a cape and perhaps even a shopping cart (if that happens to be your chariot du jour)… but most of all, grab your joy with all of your boldness–and dare to BELIEVE! Start “writing” your perfect tale…. You are absolutely EVERYTHING that a true “hero” should be… you are every bit as magical even without the wand…

You don’t have to be “super-human” to play the leading role in this engrossing tale…you just have to dive head over heels into fully and blissfully BEING YOU! So go get started… there is fairy dust to start sharing…! Wink!

Hugs,

Tink

Discovering the secrets of the “You-niverse”…

IMG_1344

Hello dear friends and hello, beautiful world! Today, I sit surrounded by the perfect harmony of chaos and perfection….the sky was brilliant…the clouds couldn’t have been more poofy…life dazzled and glowed in an amazing brilliance…the wind…the sun…the scent of a world still expanding….a world at full orbit…and how it does spin….!

It seems at times that we have been programed to weep at the “yet undelivered”…the “imperfections” in ourselves and in our world….and yet…isn’t it the lure of the “almost”…the  tantalizing presence of the surprise that is “just around the corner” that makes our hearts skip a beat?…. Isn’t it the wonder of a new discovery that arises out of the ashes of “disaster” that makes us leap tall buildings in celebration of the magnificence of all that we have become…isn’t it sometimes our harshest moments that let us come face to face with that which we truly desire…isn’t it the plunge that most quickly leads us to embrace the core that points to who we truly are….

As I pulled into the driveway tonight and stepped out of the car, I was gripped in the perfection of the instant…the diamond-like chill was pure and yet all embracing…the stars pierced through the day’s distractions with the powerful call of a Universe whose sky is often to be seen but never to be repeated….and I knew that I was MEANT to be here….right now…as me…with every component of my kaleidoscope whirling into play…

Look at our marvelous planet, dear friends…breathe it in…we are a heavenly concoction of tastes and textures…visions…desires..quests…dreams…challenges…and indeed miracles…we stumble..then we rise and we create…we question our purpose…we question the meaning….and then without quite realizing… we redefine eternity…just by being…just by living…just by asking…just by being alive…

And so…it stands to be said…isn’t the “meaning” of it all simply the beauty of learning to be you…yes, REALLY you… the “good, the bad and the ugly”…. the gift is in the opportunity to evolve…to create a new moment now irrelevant of the moments that came before or of the moments that will follow…the “meaning” is the gift of being allowed to “stumble”…to “botch it up”…to cry…to rebel..to question…to love…to change…to see….to dream…to aspire…to ‘never get it done”….to be as stern or as silly as you wish…to explore..to learn….as bright or as boring as you heart tells you to be… maybe the “meaning” is simply to leave your own very unique and important thumbprint on this tiny world…

Without you…nothing would be quite the same…so….what are you going to do with your moment…your uniqueness…your meager hundred years to dance on this stage….to draw on this palate….how do you wish to remember this moment….isn’t it time to touch the true fabric of all that it means to be (yes) truly and intoxicatingly human…..?

Life is a garden of successes waiting to be harvested

Life is a garden of successes waiting to be harvested. The potential bounty comes in all shapes and sizes. Some will resemble the decadent sweetness of melon and some the nutritional fortitude of leafy greens. But together these successes create a lifetime of potential harvest and well being.

As the farmer of this eternally blossoming crop it’s important to revel in the diversity of your garden. Savor the successes and remember that not all fruits and vegetables blossom at the same time. And look for the signs of those new buds! Welcome into your definition of success all aspects of the blooming process–including the creation of the rich soil and the planting of the seeds.

So how does this translate into real life? How do we cultivate those new beliefs that support a healthy mind?

Think big–but start small. Success is not an “all or nothing” entity. A big success is nothing more than a series of small successes that combine to become mighty. Expect it. See it. Or simply feel it. Allow it to evolve–which means relaxing into the challenging moments with the same confidence that you rejoice into the moments of obvious forward motion.

Success is fluid so remember that the challenges serve a purpose. When you can relax and observe and learn, these challenges can inspire your most rewarding insights. Let the stumbles guide you toward new ideas and let them serve as reminders for defining what it is that you do want.

Celebrate the “small” achievements and appreciate each moment that a new seed is planted in your garden. Allow yourself to feel as proud of those areas of your life that are “still growing” as you do about those areas that have already made it to your table.

The richness of your life comes from viewing your “garden” with the loving eyes of a true gardener. Love the sun. Love the rain. Love the fertilizer that makes the soil vibrant and “more”. Love the sprouts as they push up through the soil. Love the buds and love the harvest. Love the plants that seem to take forever to grow and love the plants that blossom quickly. Love the plants that struggle. Love the plants that thrive easily.

All are signs that your garden is vibrant and that this garden of life is “maturing”. All is as it is intended to be. All in its good time. All responding to the loving belief and nurturing of you, the caretaker.

Breathe in this new perspective and allow yourself to acknowledge the abundance of success all around you. Free yourself from the bondage of believing that success means that “there is no more to be had in any aspect of my life–I have it all..” This was perhaps well intentioned programming but it doesn’t empower the successful gardener. It is a flawed belief so time to add it to the mental compost pile.

Yes, Life is MEANT to be vibrant and flowing. Each moment is unique but mighty. Each moment carries with it the opportunity for jubilation. And while one plant is blooming, another is just exploring beyond its seed. So revel in this luscious process– and know that it is this constant change that creates the promise of eternally more.

This is the harmony of Nature, of kinetic motion, of eternity …of Life.

So go out into this day with eyes ready to appreciate and to savor your own garden of successes. Revel in its diversity. Relax and rejoice in the seeds that have been sown. Embrace the process of planting these seeds with the same satisfaction that you view the fruits ready for harvest. Know that these too will bloom!

Be as proud of your small goals and small successes as you are of the windfalls. Invite joy into your day and into your life.

For you ARE the mighty gardener! You ARE a collage of successes. All around you are signs of growth and becoming. Dig your hands into the dirt. Celebrate your own unique abundance of successes whether they are “finished” successes or successes in motion!

It is Time! Time to welcome in the immensity of your garden and to feel the power of a Life that is constantly growing. For this makes it well worth each minute of YOUR century. How will you celebrate this opportunity to cultivate a mighty life on this planet?

Happiness is a lifestyle

Happiness is a lifestyle. It’s not a location nor is it something that we have to “find”. It has no more to do with the car that cuts you off in traffic than it does than it does with landing the dream job…. Because “the secret” to happiness is that it’s not about them or about “it”–it’s about YOU!

Happiness is about the eyes that you wake up with in the morning…or should I say that happiness is the heart that you choose to adorn each morning. Happiness is your spiritual wardrobe–the “little black dress of Life” that fits perfectly at any occasion, that looks great and that can be accessorized with just about anything. Like any wardrobe item, it is up to you to pull it out of the closet on any given day. It is not a school uniform. No one is going to force you to wear it.

Choosing to adorn oneself with happiness means letting go of some of the “cause and effect” behavior that we have learned over the years. If someone behaves one way, you may choose your reaction based on how this reaction will ultimately serve you.

Choosing to embrace the power of happiness means visiting a new “mental gym” and developing new mental muscles. Choosing happiness means toning up the spiritual flab and pursuing an emotional 6-pack with the same enthusiasm that many pursue a physique that will turn heads.

Being happy is a richness that is much deeper than feeling happy. Feeling happy typically means that your emotions are responding to your environment and that this outer stimulus is making your thoughts (and therefore your emotions) feel good.

BEING happy means that you have learned to recognize and to deliberately allow your mind to harvest from your experience the “mental health food ” that infuses you with more consistent optimism, more power and more appreciation of the value of the upside and “downside” of experience.

Yes, happiness is a vast wealth accessible to all and waiting to be cultivated. Happiness offers itself in the feel of a soft pillow or the smell of clean sheets. Happiness offers itself in the job loss that ended up inspiring the new booming business. Happiness offers itself in the words of a child or the wagging tail of a dog. Happiness offers itself in the spontaneous giggles inspired by a new commercial or by the exquisite peace inspired by Debussy.

Living happiness means soaking in a friend’s laughter…taking time to bathe in the scent of a freshly cut lawn or the first fires of autumn or the smell of freshly baked bread as one zooms past a bakery.

Living happiness means understanding the value of focusing wisely. Living happiness means freeing oneself of the “obligation” to react negatively to something in one’s environment. Living happiness means understanding that “reality” is not synonymous with problems…that we are not required to disempower ourselves by searching and destroying the “wrongs” in every picture.

Living happiness means embracing this essence as a viable reality–rocket fuel for human potential. Joy taps into the energy of pure “flow” and unleashes our potential to unfold into all that we are.

Living happiness is genuine… Not to be confused with “putting on a happy face”. When you tone those “happiness muscles”, your inner laser shifts from scouring the horizon for problems to scouring the horizon for evidence of well being. Both elements are present. Both are real. One empowers. One embitters.

Yes, happiness is a lifestyle. Adopt it with gusto! Savor the leafy green thoughts and keep the head aches at bay. Revel in your blossoming spiritual 6-pack and wear the strength of your inner joy with pride.

You are here to think great thoughts and to stride powerfully ahead into the future of your imagining. Be proud of your ability to choose the reality of optimism. Dance. Run. Muse. Invigorate! And by all means, LIVE! In 4-D, 5-D or even 10-D high def Dolby Life! Take the reins and reclaim the happiness lifestyle of your childhood with the powerful desire of your adulthood.

THIS is Life at its most promising. Your moment is now. Seize it. Love it. And let your happiness define you in all of its glory!

Much love,
Tinkerbell

The Power of the 1%

Hello dear wonderful friends and hello dear wonderful planet! Today I sit in the marvelous silence of Night and bask in the unbridled power of the 1%. Often we tell ourselves that we must achieve these monumental tasks…we must move mountains…we must amass great fortunes…we must save the world… Life can appear daunting when we look at “all that must yet be done” and/or “all that is wrong or simply missing”….

And yet, the secret is to embrace the power of the 1%…..

Instead of needing to immediately leap from “here” all the way to “there”, what if our daily goal was simply to move further by 1%?  Losing 200 pounds may seem impossible when faced with such enormous numbers—but dropping 2 pounds is achievable. Eradicating a $50,000 debt might seem overwhelming but knocking off $500 can be done.

Feeling and acting like a champion all day every day is probably pushing it for most of us particularly when  there are computers that crash, phones that lose connection, speed traps when you’re late to work or that dear sweet person in line who managed to pick up the one item without a price tag….yes, even trying to behave like that perfectly enlightened soul can sometimes seem more daunting than scaling Mt. Everest.

So, today, as you go out to face the world, I would encourage you to celebrate the 1%. Be the champion that you aspire to be 1% longer today than you were yesterday. Dieting? Try eating 1% healthier today than you did yesterday. Trying to save money? Save 1% more than you did last week, last month or last year …Trying to get yourself out of those summer doldrums? Find 1% more time to pursue a passion…..go to the beach…call an old friend…or just do something “totally weird and silly”….

Yes, 1% today adds up to 365% in one short year, but who’s counting??…! So, THE PRESSURE IS OFF! Anyone can handle 1%….! Time to laugh at those mountains up ahead! Time to let your dreams and imagination aim high! Anything is achievable if you approach it one step at a time. Anyone who aspires to improve by 1% can be “successful”. The journey is so much more than just a “start” and a “destination”, so experience those miles in between….

THIS is your moment! Make it the moment that you embrace the 1% that is NEW! Let go of all fear and let go of all pressure. This is your time to reach out and to be all that you are and all that you wish to be. THIS is that 1% moment when all risks are worth taking. The knowledge is yours… yes, you’ve “got” this… you’re “good”…. everything is working in your favor….that 1% is surely yours….!

And surprise….that 1% is Life’s wonderful rocket fuel, so get ready to soar….we can already hear your rumble…so roar on and make it your 1% day!
